Sharon Johnston began her working career in Kingston, Ontario, as a psychiatric occupational therapist with young adults. In 1966, Mrs. Johnston completed her studies in physical and occupational therapy at the University of Toronto. Later, she completed a Bachelor of Science at the University of Western Ontario, a Master of Science at McGill University, and obtained her Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Science at McGill University. She assisted her husband, David Johnston, during his seven-year Vice Regal mandate from 2010 to 2017, at Rideau Hall, Ottawa.
