Topic: “Celluloid Cleopatras 1899-2013”

Dr. Kelly Olson holds a Ph.D from the University of Chicago, and is currently a professor in the Dept. of Classical Studies at Western University, with cross-appointments in the Faculty of Law and the Dept. of Women’s Studies and Feminist Research. Her research focuses on Roman society, sexuality and appearance, as well as fashion history. She is the author of articles on clothing in Roman antiquity, gender and appearance, and her first book,”Dress and the Roman Woman: Self Presentation and Society”. She was named a faculty scholar in the Faculty of Arts & Humanities at Western for the period 2011-2013, and appeared on The Nature of Things alongside David Suzuki.
