London and Area Food Bank
The London Food Bank first started in 1986. To support the Food Bank mission of helping a generous community share its’ food resources, club members have the opportunity to make a donation of non perishable food items, gift cards or monetary funds on a monthly basis.
Every October, to coincide with the Annual Thanksgiving Food Bank Drive, a special collection is held. A representative of the London and Area Food Bank attends this meeting to receive our donations.
During the 2024-2025 membership year, our club contributed a grand total of $3397 in food and funds.
Save your Aluminum Tabs!
In 2007, Eleanor Leatham, during her first year as President of the Women’s Canadian Club London (WCCL), introduced the club to the Thames Valley Children’s Treatment Centre (now TVCC) pop tab collection program, which funds mobility aids for children in need. Eleanor had been collecting pop tabs with her Special Ed students for several years and thought it would be a great initiative for the WCCL.
TVCC provides names of children who require specialized mobility aids, and these items, like wheelchairs, are purchased through the sale of aluminum tabs. The collection process is headed by Aurilla Ripley from ‘Tabs 4 Kids Wheels’ and includes participation from over 60 groups actively collecting tabs. Over the past years, WCCL members have helped fund mobility equipment for many children.
Please drop off your pop tab donations at the Community Service table, where a poster of the current child we are collecting for is displayed. Previous recipients can be found on WCCL’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
My Sisters’ Place
My Sisters’ Place (MSP) is a safe, welcoming and inclusive centre that supports women through drop-in and wrap-around services. My Sisters’ Place is a program of the Canadian Mental Health Association Middlesex.
In support of My Sisters’ Place, Women’s Canadian Club, London members are encouraged to bring personal items (such as toiletries), bus tickets, gift cards or monetary donations to the December meeting. Please drop off your donations at the Community Service table.
A representative from My Sisters’ Place attends the December meeting to accept the proceeds from the above activities.
In 2024-2025, a contribution of several boxes of items and $1140 was made to My Sisters’ Place.
Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund
The Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund is a public fund held in trust by the Royal Canadian Legion. Funds are raised by Legion branches in cities, towns and communities across Canada.
Donations collected directly support veterans and their families within their community.
In November, the club contributes $100 to the Royal Canadian Legion Byron-Springbank Branch 533. In addition, members may contribute to the Poppy Box at the Community Service table.
On behalf of the membership, a club member also places a wreath at the Cenotaph every Remembrance Day.
