The Grand Theatre
The Grand Theatre continues to be our longest-serving and a very generous corporate sponsor of Women’s Canadian Club. The theatre itself began as a movie house. Between 1945 and 1971, the building was owned and operated by the London Little Theatre. It was one of Canada’s most active and successful amateur theatre companies.
An ambitious project refurbishing the theatre began in 1977, and it reopened in 1978 to reclaim its status as one of the most beautiful theatres in Canada. The theatre is an excellent example of the Proscenium Arch Theatre and is one of the more traditional forms of theatrical design. It was designed to send music and sound from the stage into the audience.
Every year, The Grand Theatre provides the London area with professional entertainment filled with laughter, song, sadness and redemption, reflecting every aspect of the human condition. Find The Grand Theatre at www.grandtheatre.com.
We welcome back Link Theatre as a corporate sponsor. This theatre company is a collaboration of Rich Kish (former artistic director of a missing link theatre company) and Martha Zimmerman (actor), professional artists residing in London.
The mandate of the group is to create opportunities for artists and audiences in London and surrounding area to explore, play and grow through the art of theatre.
“A very retro Crooner Christmas” this season and two more productions in 2016 comprise this year’s program. For more information, please go to www.linktheatre.ca.
The Palace is one of our more recent corporate sponsors; however, it has provided Women’s Canadian Club with special-event tickets at our Spring Luncheon. We welcome and appreciate their support.
For more than 40 years, London Community Players have been a vital part of the theatre scene in London. This group has proven itself to be an important incubator to the development of local talent and has provided many in London’s theatrical community with their first exposure to the performing arts. It has drawn thousands of community members into the creative discipline of theatrical productions and given those thousands an opportunity to enhance their lives by participating in the arts.
London Community Players is located in the heart of the Old East Village cultural district. For more information on this year’s performances, please go to www.palacetheatre.ca.
We welcome Serenata Music as one of our more recent corporate sponsors. This talented organization presents a variety of musical events for the London area, featuring both well-known and blossoming artists in programs suitable for the sophisticated as well as newcomer audiences.
Serenata Music has provided a unique blend of chamber music to the London audience for the past 12 years. Director Renee Silberman delights in having a spectrum of professional instrumentalists and singers perform a wide range of musical genres. The Wolf Performance Hall provides an intimate venue where the audience can enjoy excellent acoustics and be close to the performers. London is fortunate to have the opportunity to take part in these musical activities usually available only in larger centres.
