He has also been involved in research studying the early European exploration of that region from the 1800s through the 1930s. His research into the famous 3rd Franklin expedition goes back to its beginning in 2008. Kevin has won many trophies and scholarships at music competitions\, such as the London Kiwanis Music Festival\, Woodstock Music Festival and St. Thomas Music Festival. Kevin has been asked to represent various music festivals at OMFA (Ontario Music Festivals Association) and has placed 3rd\, 2nd and honourable mention in his various age categories. DESCRIPTION:Courtney Coleman\, 15\, will speak about her experiences as a model and actor. After modeling and taking acting classes in New York City in the summer of 2014\, she became involved with improv theatre. That lead to her stunt work in a short film which will be released this year. In November\, she was named one of the top five Canadian Young Performers\, in the category of Live Performance. Locally\, she is just finishing a run in “Jack and the Beanstalk” for the Elgin Theatre Guild and is rehearsing her role in the school play at Parkside Collegiate in St. Thomas.

DESCRIPTION:Jasmine Ryu Won Kang is 13 and in grade 9 at Central Secondary School in London. She is the 2015 Kathryn Sells Scholarship recipient. Jasmine won first place at the Ontario Provincial Finals for grade 9 piano in 2014 and received honourable mention for grade 10 piano in 2015. Last year\, she had the honour of performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the London Community Orchestra (LCO)\, and she also is looking forward to performing Bruch Violin Concerto in G minor with the LCO this December.

DESCRIPTION:Jackson Martin is a 15 year-old student in the French Immersion Program at Sir Wilfred Laurier Secondary School in London. He will be our Youth Speaker on Thursday October 8\, 2015 at Centennial Hall. Jackson is the son of Katherynne and Richard Martin and has been in 17 films\, mostly shorts. He attended the Cannes Film Festival in the spring of 2015\, for the world premieres of 2 feature films: “Sleeping Giant”\, directed y Andrew Cividino\, and “Boy”\, directed by Melanie Chung. He was the lead in both films. The feature film “Sleeping Giant” made its North American premiere at TIFF on September 15 to a standing ovation.

DESCRIPTION:Ellen McDonald was the winner of the 2014 essay contest “Proud to be Canadian” and is excited to share it with the WCC audience. Ellen was born in March 2003 and will enter grade 7 in September. She lives in Thorndale with her parents and 2 younger brothers. Ellen is passionate about acting\, singing\, and dancing and also loves to swim. She recently completed her first musical; Charlotte’s Web with Original Kids Theatre Company and will start on her second one this fall. In 2004 she advanced to the singing competition at the Western Fair and has qualified again for 2015. Ellen also enjoys public speaking and has advanced to the finals at her school several times.
