Last spring her guide group leader was approached by “Maples for Vimy” to send some guides to plant maple trees in the small towns near Vimy Ridge\, France to honour the 100th year anniversary of the historic battle. Sydney volunteered to go. The maples that were planted by these young people will serve as\nliving memorials to those brave soldiers who fought at the battle of Vimy Ridge. Sydney is here today to tell us about that experience. \nHer hobbies besides guiding activities are photography and baking. She hopes to further her education at university in the nursing program.

Thanh was adopted into the family of Rev. William and Maureen Campbell. In the recent past\, Thanh reunited with many of the war orphans that flew over with him back in 1975. In 2014\, Mr. Campbell was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow Award\, a prestigious award presented by the Rotary to those whose efforts are commended in community building.

His research into the famous 3rd Franklin expedition goes back to its beginning in 2008. Kevin is a three time National Finalist and scholarship recipient at CMC (Canadian Music Competition). Kevin has won many trophies and scholarships at music competitions\, such as the London Kiwanis Music Festival\, Woodstock Music Festival and St. Thomas Music Festival. Kevin has been asked to represent various music festivals at OMFA (Ontario Music Festivals Association) and has placed 3rd\, 2nd and honourable mention in his various age categories. Kevin enjoys playing the piano at concerts and has had the pleasure of performing at the London Kiwanis Stars Concert as well as the St. Thomas Star Concert and the Woodstock Festival of Stars concert. He enjoys traveling to Europe to see family\, tandem bike riding\, playing soccer\, and in winter\, skiing\, snowboarding and hockey. John also plays the piano and cello and loves video games. He is a bit of a whiz at computers and video editing and is the “go to” person both in his class and at home. He attended Western’s Engineering camp this past summer. \nLast fall\, John entered Genworth’s Meaning of Home contest. He composed a poem in the style of Dr. Seuss and won the contest over 5000 grade 5 and 6 entrants from across Canada. Genworth donated $1000.00 to his school and $ 50\,000.00 to Habitat for Humanity in his name.
