| HOW DID THIS COME ABOUT? | |
| The Canadian Club
movement had its origins in Hamilton in 1892 among a group of men who wanted
to be more active, better informed Canadians. They first gathered to engage
in studies and discussions among themselves. They made clear that they were
out to help implement the ideals of Confederation and to stimulate Canadian
spirit.
In 1897, the idea spread to Toronto, and very soon became a movement spanning the country. Formed in 1910, this organization meets monthly to hear distinguished speakers on issues of national or international importance. Women's Canadian Club members
are dedicated to preserving Canadian identity, increasing their interest
in matters affecting the welfare of their country and informing Canadians
about Canada's part in world affairs. |
